[GRIFFINTOWN]
INNOVATIVE MIXED-USE REDEVELOMENT
Location: Montreal, QC,Canada
Project Objective: To plan an innovativemixed-use development, which includes a creative knowledge centre, while drawing on the context and supporting the overall vision for Griffintown that is part if the Innovation Quarter of Montreal.
In addition to our role as planners and designers, this project required us to play the role of the developers ensuring that the project is financially viable.
Griffintown requires a bilingual school for its growing population, we submit our project entitled “La Pointe-des-Seigneurs”, where residents are encouraged to “Work Stay Create Innovate”. Our vision is
for a cohesive family-oriented neighbourhood, integrated within the South-West borough, offering an innovative educational program, social and cultural services, as well as diverse economic opportunities.
Concept
The site of this project is located along the art corridor in Griffintown. We drew on the existing cultural amenities and artistic spirit. The site is comprised of five parcels of land and includes some buildings. These buildings were rundown, so we made the decision to rehouse the art centre in a new building that is connected
to the proposed high school, which would allow the artists to transfer artistic and cultural knowledge to the students. Our proposal for a mixed-use development included an innovative elementary school, a high school, condominiums, as well as commercial space. Providing large residential units, we are inviting families to live in an attractive area where their children attend the innovative schools. A semi-enclosed courtyard will provide residents with leisure space and opportunities to interact.
